Russian version

According to the stereotype, China is the birthplace of cheap but low-quality products that are best avoided. And if we are talking about sex toys or menstrual cups with AliExpress, I completely agree with this recommendation. But stereotypes are bad because they unnecessarily generalize. China products are different and Magic Motion is a good example of that. Their Kegel simulator was once very popular in Russia and the Kegel Master did its job perfectly, being half the price of its competitors. During the last year, Magic Motion has been actively consolidating its success and is launching new gadgets one by one. One of them is the Awaken vibrator, whose name itself is suggestive.

Why this vibrator?

For the past six months, I have been enjoying the effects of We-Vibe's famous Tango lipstick vibrator. But its famous power, alas, is far from affordable for everyone, so I really wanted to find a good counterpart, which I can recommend on occasion. On seeing Awaken, I decided that it had a good chance of becoming such an alternative, and took the device for a test.

What is in the box?

If the early Magic Motion models came in plain packaging with a restrained, almost medically sterile design, new toys are coming in smart boxes with colorful designs. It’s nice to get one, and it’s great to present one. On the reverse side are the properties of the gadget (in English), patent number, sizes and a QR code, using which you can download the Whats Sense official application. We’ll talk more about it.

The box is not easy to open (the lid sits very tightly, arm yourself with a knife or a ruler), but the contents do not disappoint: inside is a red Awaken with a black “finger”, a usb magnetic-charging wire, branded gray pouch and manual booklet with the same pattern as on the package. The manual has a section in Russian.

Basic information

Probably all lipstick vibrators are similar and each of them is similar to lipstick. Due to its scarlet hue and peculiar shape, this vibrator truly resembles a lipstick, but its velvety surface is much more pleasant – especially the soft tip. Awaken is covered with silicone with a barely traceable flat seam, at the base there is black ABS plastic, on which a red convex control button and charging contacts are visible. The charging time of the device is two hours (at the end of the cycle, the button goes out), after which it will work for an hour. An important nuance: the manufacturer recommends that the toy is completely discharged before the first charge, but this is a clear mistake – lithium-ion batteries, one of which is installed in Awaken, degrades from deep discharge. Therefore, it is better to charge it as soon as you get it out of the box. For the first time it may take much more than the declared two hours – I was charging it from evening to late morning, but then everything will return to normal.

The gadget is easy to wash: the IPX6 degree of protection allows you to do this under the tap, and the silicone surface does not need anything other than soap and water. True, the seam between silicone and plastic may require cleaning with a soft brush, but don't be too zealous. Immersing the vibrator in water and taking baths with it, alas, is impossible.

Sizes: height 9.5 cm, diameter 2.4 cm. Weight – 39 g.

Usage

You can control Awaken in two ways: offline - with the only button in the base, remotely – using a mobile application. In online mode, the control of the toy can be transferred. There is no button lock, as such, but a simple shutdown can go for the travel-lock: to turn on the device, the button must be clamped for 3 seconds, and vibration can be stopped by sending it to the standby mode: just scroll through all 7 modes or hold the down button for a second. The fact that the toy is not turned off, but awaits further instructions, you will find out by the winking of the button.

The above-mentioned 7 modes is just one smooth and quite strong vibration, its 6 patterns which are shown schematically in the manual, plus the standby mode. Since there is only one button, they scroll in a circle. For me smooth modes do not seem to be enough: I want to start with a light impact and then build up power as I get excited. Awaken is more likely for those who prefer a variety of intermittent stimulation. After 10 minutes, the toy begins to warm up, which is very typical for powerful "lipsticks" with their small motors. Using a hot vibrator, of course, is not recommended but thanks to its strength, it uses these ten to fifteen minutes to please you. The simple form makes the device almost universal – it cannot be used only anally, but as for all other places, from the earlobes to the perineum - caress them freely.

The motor of the gadget is strong and is located in the right place, at the tip; the vibrations could be deeper, but they are quite comparable with the Tango mentioned above and this is something. Awaken makes moderate noise - the average is 45 dB, a level of soft conversation. From behind the door it is inaudible. I measured it using the Sound Meter mobile application.

Separately, I’ll say a few words about mobile applications. The manufacturer strongly recommends controlling this vibrator using the brand new Whats Sense application. I would have been glad to use it, but it refused to find Awaken, no matter how I tried. Fortunately, Magic Motion has an earlier application of the same name, and it connected to the toy without any problems. Therefore, vibration to the beat of music or voice, control from anywhere in the world and private chat will still be available. But it’s better to minimize expectations immediately: for example, in the “draw еру vibration pattern with your finger” mode, Awaken shamelessly lags behind or even becomes wilful. And this is if you understand the poor translation of the application into Russian. The language of the application depends on the system language of your smartphone.

Who is it for?

Awaken should be suitable for those who like strong point stimulation, want a simple and reliable toy, and also for those who are looking for a vibrator that you can easily carry along.

It is unlikely to appeal to those who need a toy with a soft effect, are looking for a waterproof device or are too annoyed by poorly running applications.

Total

A nice inexpensive toy that combines compactness with power, and simplicity of form with a modern remote control function.
